A
Conflict of Idealogies: Pan Arabism V Zionism

Since
its creation in 1948 Israel has sought peace with its neighbours,
yet the surrounding Arab Nations [with the exception of Jordan
and Egypt] have refused to acknowledge Israel's right to exist
and actively sought its annihilation.
|
| For
the Jewish-Israeli side, Zionism is a heroic enterprise of
self-defense against the miserable historical fate of the
Jews. The gross historical injustice of the Diaspora
was replaced by the incarnation of historical justice in the
Land of Israel. The war of 1948 is the “War of Liberation,”
and a magnificent victory of the “few against the many.”
That,
needless to say, is not the way the Palestinians see it.
The Zionist enterprise, from the Palestinian point of view,
is no more than a movement of settler colonialism, imposed
upon them by force...This catastrophe of 1948 is the formative
experience and crucible of Palestinianness and the backbone
of Palestinian identity, and is the foundation of a collective
self-image as the victims of a gross historical injustice.

Susser
SHAHEED
Arabic,
literally Holy Martyr. Commonly understood by Israelis to
denote a suicide bomber. For Muslims, the term is applied
to all Palestinian fatalities of the Intifada, including civilians
caught in IDF sights or in crossfire, as well as bombers and
gunmen who die in clashes with Israeli forces. Early
in the Intifada, it was Yasser Arafat's exhortation that a
"million martyrs" would march on Jerusalem that
convinced large sectors of the Israeli public that the then-PA
chairman had aligned himself with armed Palestinian groups
engaged in attacking Israelis.

Judgements
of the Israel Supreme Court: Fighting Terrorism within the
Law
There
exists a consensus on the need to fight terror, but there
is still much controversy regarding the best way to conduct
this war. Unfortunately, this dilemma is not new to the Israeli
legal system. Since its birth, the State of Israel has been
the target of significant threats to its existence, including
terrorism. In this sense the Israeli experience in the legal-judicial
field is relevant to all those interested in the war on terrorism.

Terrorism: Since the start
of the Al-Aqsa Intifada in September 2000, hundreds of Israeli
civilians were killed, thousands injured and many more were
traumatized psychologically by attacks from armed Palestinian
groups… |
