Gilad Shalit

On June 25, 2011 Staff Sgt Gilad Shalit will have been held incommunicado by terrorist factions in Gaza for 5 years, having been abducted from Israel and imprisoned by Hamas, the Islamist terrorist group--so recognised by many countries--at present controlling Gaza. During the abduction, two of Gilad’s comrades, Lt Hanan Barak and Staff Sgt Pavel Slutzker both aged 20, were murdered.

Gilad has never been allowed a visit by the International Red Cross or by anyone indicating concern for his welfare.

Despite all the huffing and puffing and platitudes emanating from the United Nations and others, Gilad’s situation remains unchanged, unacceptable and untenable.

If the concerned world wishes a solution to the problem of the blockade of Hamas and the disaster they have brought upon their own people in Gaza, it must recognise that the most influential person in attaining that goal is not President Obama, Ban Ki Moon or the European Union – it is Gilad Shalit.
