This week the Peres Centre for Peace saw Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho and
Brazilian football star Ronaldo work for the Soccer Schools project to
bring Israeli and Palestinian children from poor backgrounds to play football
together, enjoying professional soccer practices as well as help with
completing their homework, Ynet reports. Mourinho, who currently coaches
leading British club Chelsea, has agreed to serve as a special envoy for
the Peres Centre for Peace in matters relating to soccer and peace after
meeting the children in Israel. He will assist in establishing and financing
two soccer schools for Israeli and Palestinian children.
Ronaldo who heads the squad of Spanish team Real Madrid, is also to take
part in the Peres Centre for Peace innovative venture bringing Israeli
and Palestinian children together. Ronaldo is scheduled to visit Israel
at the beginning of May. In the project’s framework, mixed squads
of Israeli and Palestinian children are set to compete in a “Mini
World Cup” on April 18 at the Herzliya Stadium.
