Natural Gas and Crude Oil Business Delegation
11 March 2013
Britain’s Minister of State for Trade and Investment Arriving in Israel as Head of a Natural Gas and Crude Oil Business Delegation

The British Minister of State for Trade and Investment, the Lord Stephen Green, has arrived in Israel today as head of a business delegation that will include representatives from over ten leading British companies in the natural gas and crude oil industry.

During his visit, Minister Green will meet with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Labour Shalom Simchon, and leading Israeli businesspeople, and will visit the Leviathan natural gas field. The members of the business delegation will meet with leading Israeli companies in the energy industry.

The UK is considered a world leader in the crude oil and natural gas industry. Scotland, renowned as the industry’s UK hub, has more than 2,000 companies in the energy industry, operating in over 100 markets worldwide.

Last year, trade between the UK and Israel reached a record of more than £4 billion. The prolific trade relations between the two states also manifest in Israeli investments in the UK: more than 250 Israeli companies have set up branches in the UK. Subsequently, Israel is among the top 20 countries in the world investing in the UK, exceeding Brazil, Austria, Mexico, South Africa, Finland, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and others.

Lord Stephen Green started off his career in the British Government’s Ministry of Overseas Development. In 1977, he joined the corporate consulting firm McKinsey and Co. and managed the company’s projects in Europe, North America and the Middle East. He later worked in various departments in the British government, until his most recent position as Group Chairman of HSBC Holdings plc.

Before Lord Green will leave back to the UK he will visit the Occupied Palestinian Territories where he will meet Palestinian officials and businesspeople.
