The
moral high ground or just plain racism, anti-Semitism and self-hating
Jews against Israel?
The
AUT academic Boycott of Israel
On
Friday 23rd April 2005, the eve of the Jewish Passover, delegates
of the 40,000-member United Kingdom Association of University Teachers,
meeting in Eastbourne England, voted Friday to boycott Haifa University
and Bar Ilan University.
Although
the executive opposed the move, delegates belonging to the leading union
of British lecturers voted for an immediate boycott of Haifa University,
which they claim restricts the academic freedom of staff members who criticize
the government. Bar Ilan University will also be boycotted, as it has
a branch in the West Bank settlement of Ariel.[source Ha'aretz]
British
lecturers to reopen debate on Israeli boycott
by Tamara Traubman, Haaretz
Some 10 days after Britain's Association of University Teachers (AUT)
decided to impose an academic boycott on Haifa and Bar-Ilan universities,
lecturers in Britain who are opposed to the move have man-aged to collect
the required number of signatures for reopening the decision to a debate.

second great mutation of anti- Semitism in modern times"
“What
we are witnessing today is the second great mutation of anti-Semitism
in modern times, from racial anti-Semitism to religious anti-Zionism with
the added premise that all Jews are Zionists. It uses all the medieval
myths… The mutation is this; that the worst crimes of anti-Semites
in the past-racism, ethnic cleansing, attempted genocide, crimes against
humanity-are now attributed to the Jews and the state of Israel”

Kingdom, Jonathan Sacks

Is
Israel an ‘Apartheid State’?
by Denis MacEoin
Last
week the UK’s Association of University Teachers, a body to which
I was once proud to belong, did a very strange and unacademic thing. By
a slim vote of 96 to 92, with opposed voices still to be heard, they passed
a resolution to boycott two (possibly three) Israeli universities.
Against
the academic boycott of Israel.
by Ron Evans
Professor of Mathematics University of California,
Author and peace activist Amos Oz observed [1] that Palestinians are simultaneously engaged
in two wars: a just war against occupation, and an unjust war aimed at
destroying Israel. Willful blindness towards the second war is a hallmark
of anti-Israel prejudice, and is a common denominator in petitions for
academic boycott of Israel. We focus here on one example.
